What is GATE ?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

GATE is a national level exam that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, and Arts. GATE 2025 will be a computer-based test (CBT) organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI).

Qualified GATE score can be used for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to:

  1. Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, and Arts.
  2. Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies.

GATE score is also used by some colleges and institutions for giving admission to students without MoE scholarship/assistantship. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.

GATE 2025 is being organised by Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

The GATE score reflects the relative performance level of the candidate in a particular subject, quantified based on several years of examination data. Note that the GATE 2025 score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the results.
